Tavlor <br />Council President McGann read this resolution. He then presented it to Hollis Hughes, <br />Sr., President of the St. Joseph County AFL -CIO Council. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 920 -81 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND,. INDIANA CONGRATULATING THE ST. JOSEPH HIGH SCHOOL <br />INDIAN FOOTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR GREAT WINNING STREAK <br />WHEREAS, the St. Joseph's Indians racked up the longest football winning streak <br />by their 31 victories in the State of Indiana and they outscored their rival 293 to <br />34; and <br />WHEREAS, Coach Phil Teegarden established a team spirit and organized his football <br />talent to go.unbeaten for 3 straight years; and <br />WHEREAS, the winning team effort of the St. Joseph Indians included many individual <br />high school stars such as: <br />(1) the "Touchdown Twins" Jim Reiner and Dale Scott who were both 1000 -yard <br />rushers with Jim gaining 1,116 yards for a 5.9 average; and Dale gaining 1,040 yards <br />for a 5.5 average. <br />(2) Receiver Greg.Grohowski caught 13 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns; <br />Receiver Jon Badur caught 12 passes for 124 yards and one touchdown; and Mario Zappia <br />caught 9 passes for 126 yards from Quarterback Mike Carmola who completed 42 of 83 <br />passes for 652 yards for 3 touchdowns. <br />(3) Sixteen Indian Defenders were credited with 10 or more solo tackles including <br />Linebacker Jeff Monhaut with 47 solo tackles and 39 assists; Tom Kuspa with 36 solo <br />tackles and 28 assists; Tom Toppell with 33 solo tackles and 29 assists; and Dennis <br />Goralski with 31 solo tackles and 23 assists. <br />(4) The power- packed "white dogs" offensive line included such stars as Brian <br />McMahon, Steve Hoffman, John Zack, Paul Brady and John Glon; and the state's most <br />impressive defensive secondaries. included Kevin Kasmierszak, Brian Wroblewski, Richard <br />Was, and Tom Klimek; who nabbed 21 interceptions. <br />WHEREAS, The South Bend Common Council recognizes the individual and team talent <br />on the St. Joseph's Indians football team and congratulates them on an impressive <br />winning streak which brought them to a Class AA playoff berth. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana CONGRATULATES <br />theSt. Joseph High School Indians football team for establishing an Indiana State <br />record of 31 consecutive victories. <br />SECTION II. The Common Council recognizes with pride, Coach Phil Teegarden, the <br />entire football team, and all of the individual players who established many individual <br />and team records in their three years of consecutive football victories. <br />SECTION III. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, wishes to <br />express their thanks on behalf of all of its citizens and fans of the St. Joe's Indians <br />football team for their fine leadership and winning spirit which are a tribute to the <br />entire community, and wishes "THE TRIBE" continued success in the future. <br />SECTION IV. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after <br />its adoption by the CommonCouncil and approval by the Mayor. <br />/s/ Lewis A. McGann <br />Member of the Common Council <br />Council President McGann read this resolution then presented it to Coach Phil Teegarden <br />and the team's co- captains. <br />REPORTS <br />Council Member Crone indicated that the Personnel & Finance Committee met on October <br />26 to finalize licensing and fees, and recommended Bill No. 121 -81 favorable. <br />Council Member Beck indicated that the Residential Neighborhood Committee had. -met <br />regarding the vacation of a part of Sunnymede Avenue, and recommended that this be <br />continued until the November 23 meeting. <br />
