f <br />REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 24, 1986 <br />�E <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the <br />Council Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, February 24, at 7:00 p.m. <br />The meeting was called to order and the Pledge to the Flag was given. <br />ROLL CALL Present: Council Members Serge, Braboy, Puzzello, <br />Taylor, Zakrzewski, Barcome, Paszek, Voorde <br />and Beck <br />Absent: None <br />REPORT FROM THE SUB - COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />The sub - committee has inspected the minutes of the January 27 and February 3 meeting <br />of the Council and found them correct. <br />Therefore, we recommend the same be approved. <br />/s/ Beverlie J. Barcome <br />/s/ Al Paszek <br />Council Member Serge made a motion that the minutes of the Janauary 27 and February <br />3, meetings of the Council be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Council <br />Member Zakrzewski. The motion carried. <br />SPECIAL BUSINESS <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1401 -85 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, DESIGNATING TUESDAY, MARCH 4, 1986, AS <br />"TEACHER DAY USA" IN SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />WHEREAS, each year the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is <br />proud to adopt a resolution designating "Teacher Day USA" at the local level; and <br />WHEREAS, the National Education Association has designated Tuesday, March 4, <br />1986, as "TEACHER DAY USA' as a day of national recognition of the countless <br />professional services teachers perform for our children; and <br />WHEREAS, the role of teachers is especially meaningful and poignant this year as <br />we remember a dedicated high school teacher from Concord, New Hampshire, who said "I <br />touch the future. I teach!" and a second grade teacher from McCall, Idaho, who plans <br />to "push on" in the quest of our Nation's teacher - astronaut program; and <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council wishes to publicly commend all of the teachers of <br />the South Bend Community School Corporation for daily challenging our youth in their <br />intellectual and social growth and development. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, recognizes <br />the vital role that teachers have in public education all across America and <br />especially in South Bend, Indiana. <br />SECTION II. The Common Council publicly commends all teachers of the South Bend <br />Community School Corporation for their countless contributions to our educational <br />system and hereby declares Tuesday, March 4, 1986, as "TEACHER DAY USA" in South <br />Bend, Indiana. <br />SECTION III. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after <br />its adoption by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />/s/ Joseph T.
