MARY WHITTLESEY KOTZ <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />On June 30th, 1886, Daniel Kotz married Mary Whittlesey. Mary was also a landscape <br />painter and an avid painter of flowers. Mary Whittlesey came from a family of significant <br />education, wealth, and politics. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Mary Whittlesey was the granddaughter of the first Comptroller / Treasurer of the United <br />States of America, Elisha Whittlesey, who built the Washington Monument, and worked <br />under four Presidents including President Lincoln and President Taylor. Elisha <br />Whittlesey was known as “The Watchdog of the Treasury”. <br /> <br /> <br />
