Patrick M. McMahon, P.E.
Director, Public Works
CITY Of SOUTH BEND
PETER J. NEMETH, Mayor
COUNTY -CITY BUILDING SOUTH BEND, INDIANA 46601
March 7, 1979
Members of the Common Council
441 County /City Building
South Bend, IN 46601
Attention of Mr. Joseph Serge, Chairman, Public Works Committee
RE: Cleveland Road Trunk Sewer
Dear Councilmen:
Attached you will find an ordinance requesting the appropriation
of $603,800 from the Cumulative Sewer Building and Sinking Fund.
This figure represents the estimated cost of constructing a sani-
tary sewer line from existing facilities located at the Cleveland
and Portage intersection Northwesterly to the proposed U.S. 20
By -Pass and Indiana Toll Road Interchange.
This sanitary sewer will serve the area adjacent to and North of
the Indiana Toll Road between these points. It is anticipated
that the construction of the By- Pass /Toll Road Interchange will
stimulate extensive development in the adjacent properties, and
that said development will require sanitary sewer service.
The trunk sewer is proposed to be constructed adjacent to the
South two lanes of the new Cleveland Road extension. Rough grad-
ing for these two lanes was completed when the North two lanes
were constructed. The City will be able to realize a considerable
cost savings in this sewer construction if construction can be
started and completed prior to the paving of the South lanes.
219/284 -9251
