Appearance <br />During the situation audit, one significant concern raised by a <br />During the situation audit, a number of residents and <br />business owners expressed concern about the overall <br />appearance of the corridor. As it currently exists, the South <br />Gateway corridor does not have a distinct identity. Many <br />parkways are paved, sidewalks are not continuous and are <br />often in disrepair, and many private properties appear dated <br />and in need of a face lift. The following photographs <br />summarize several of these appearance issues. <br />The following action plan highlights recommendations to <br />enhance the South Gateway Corridor's image. Sketches for <br />a number of these recommendations are also included. <br />These sketches are intended as concepts to illustrate key <br />recommendations. Improvements do not have to be installed <br />exactly as illustrated to achieve the goal of revitalizing the <br />corridor. However, the types of improvements shown in the <br />sketches would be appropriate ways to stimulate excitement <br />and enthusiasm in the South Gateway Corridor. <br />Encourage non -rectangular signs, in scale with <br />development sites <br />Provide street trees and shrub screening around parking <br />lots <br />Encourage consistent awnings and facade improvements <br />Locate parking at rear or side of buildings <br />Permit some additional signs if in scale with building <br />Encourage creative signs which reflect the adjacent use <br />where appropriate <br />Business Districts, Inc. a ..-p«. .„-s:: oso xwm ::.aw .;r xs>ss oea.a a.
