i <br />REGULAR MEETING MAY 11,1987 <br />A public hearing was held on the resolution at this time. Council Member Beck read <br />the resolution. Council Member Barcome made a motion to adopt the resolution, <br />seconded by Council Member Puzzello. The resolution was adopted by a roll call vote <br />of nine ayes. Council Member Beck presented the resolution at Anna Pappas, <br />President of the NEA. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1497 -87 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, DESIGNATING MAY 10TH THROUGH MAY 16TH AS <br />"MUNICIPAL CLERK'S WEEK" IN SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council acknowledges that thousands of county, city town, <br />township, village and borough clerks throughout the United States and Canada will be <br />observing "Municipal Clerk's Week" the week of May 10 through May 16, 1987; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council notes that this annual celebration is being sponsored by <br />the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (I.I.M.C.) and has been observed for <br />the past seventeen (17) years; and <br />WHEREAS, this year's focal point is to emphasize the importance of the office of <br />the municipal clerk in local governmental operations; and <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council desires to specifically acknowledge the critical <br />role which the office of the City Clerk plays in carrying out effective and <br />efficient services to the general public, the City Administration, and the Council. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION I. The South Bend Common Council recognizes the essential duties which <br />municipal clerks carry out throughout our nation is fostering responsive local <br />government. <br />SECTION II. The Council commends all municipal clerks and, in particular, Irene <br />Gammon and her staff and, in recognition thereof, declares May 10th through May 16th <br />as "Municipal Clerk's Week" in South Bend, Indiana. <br />SECTION III. The Common Council is proud to be a part of the international <br />celebration sponsored by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and <br />commends this organization's educational, research, and informational services <br />rendered to its 8,000 members. <br />SECTION IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after <br />its adoption by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />/s/ Joseph T. Council Member Voorde <br />read the resolution. He indicated that City Clerk, Irene Gammon, would be president <br />of the Indiana League of Municipal Clerks and Clerk- Treasurers for 1987 -88. He <br />presented the resolution to her. Council Member Barcome made a motion to adopt this <br />resolution, seconded by Council Member Zakrzewski. The resolution was adopted by a <br />roll call vote of nine ayes. City Clerk, Irene Gammon, thanked the Council for the <br />resolution. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1498 -87 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING REVEREND THEODORE M. <br />HESBURGH, C.S.C. AND REVEREND EDMUND P. JOYCE, C.S.C. <br />FOR THEIR THIRTY -FIVE YEARS OF SERVICE AND DEDICATION <br />TO THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME AND TO OUR COMMUNITY. <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana notes with pride <br />the thirty -five (35) years of service and dedication given to the University of <br />Notre Dame by Father Hesburgh and Father Joyce; and <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council acknowledges that because of their leadership, the <br />surrounding community has been touched and enhanced immeasurably; and <br />
