4?6 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />NOVEMBER 25, 1991 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the <br />Council Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, November 25, 1991, at 7:00 <br />p.m. The meeting was called to order and the Pledge to the Flag was given. <br />ROLL CALL Present: Council Members Luecke, Niezgodski, Soderberg, <br />Puzzello, Slavinskas, Zakrzewski, Duda, Coleman <br />and Ladewski <br />Absent: None <br />REPORT FROM THE SUB- COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />The sub- committee has inspected the minutes of the November 12, 1991 meetings of the <br />Council and found them correct. <br />Therefore, we recommend the same be approved. <br />/s/ Tom Zakrzewski <br />/s /Don Niezgodski <br />Council Member Zakrzewski made a motion that the minutes of the November 12, 1991 <br />meetings of the Council be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Council Member <br />Duda. The motion carried. <br />SPECIAL BUSINESS <br />Council President Niezgodski announced that the Council has two appointments to the <br />Redevelopment Commission, which will be made on December 9. He asked that if there <br />was any one interested in an appointment to send a letter to the Council. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1899 -91 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING THE SOUTH BEND CLINIC AND <br />SURGICENTER ON ITS 75TH ANNIVERSARY <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council notes that in 1916, Dr. Walter Baker, Dr. Edwin <br />Lent, Dr. Charles Terry, Dr. Robert Shanklin, Dr. Charles E. Hansen, Dr. Hugh <br />Miller, and Dr. Fred R. Clap founded the South Bend Clinic; and <br />WHEREAS, these seven doctors established a unique style of medical care by <br />bringing together medical specialists to practice together as a group; and <br />WHEREAS, the South Bend Clinic is the oldest group practice of physicians in <br />Indiana, and was the first free standing ambulatory surgery center in Northern <br />Indiana; and <br />WHEREAS, many medical advances have taken place at the clinic including the <br />first use of penicillin in this community by Dr. Frank Scott, and polio vaccine <br />field trials by Dr. G. Walter Erickson. <br />WHEREAS, today the South Bend Clinic and SurgiCenter has grown to 35 physicians <br />and 211 staff members who are all dedicated to providing dedicated and quality <br />medical care to the citizens of our community. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA, as follows: <br />SECTION I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, on behalf of <br />all of its residents hereby publicly commends and salutes the louth Bend Clinic and <br />SurgiCenter on its 75th Anniversary of providing quality medical care to our <br />community. <br />SECTION II. The South Bend Clinic and SurgiCenter is an excellent example of a <br />caring group of individuals who are meeting the many needs of our residents, by <br />providing after hour services, x -rays, lab and other testing services on site; as <br />well as having over 75% of its physicians teaching at area hospitals. <br />SECTION III.
