BILL NO. 39 -81 ORDINANCE NO. 6913 -81 AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE ANNUAL PAY OF FIREFIGHTERS FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1982, 1983, and 1984 ATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, recognizes that Indiana Code Section 18- 1 -11 -2 specifically authorizes the Common Council to set salaries for the Fire Department. The Common Council further recognizes that its' Wage Committee and the Firefighters Wages Committee reached agreement on a three year pay package which was duly ratified by the Firefighters. The Common Council therefore has decided that the following provisions be included in the Salary Ordinance for the South Bend Fire- fighters for the calendar years 1982, 1983, and 1984. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows: SECTION I. The annual pay of the officers and sworn members of the Fire Department by rank, classification and service years shall be as follows: 1983 9,130.00 26,730.00 23,530.00 20,300.00 19,950.00 19,250.00 19,000.00 18,750.00 18,500.00 18,250.00 18,000.00 17,750.00 16,050.00 14,750.00 1984 30,630.00 28,230.00 25,030.00 21,850.00 21,500.00 20,800.00 20,550.00 20,300.00 20,050.00 19,800.00 19,550.00 19,300.00 17,750.00 15,750.00 The first service year for a firefighter commences upon his being sworn in as a firefighter. The Firefighter shall obtain his second service year on the next succeeding first day of January until he attains the maximum salary for the particular rank he may hold. SECTION II. The above salary schedule is subject to renegotiate only if the Indiana Property Tax Control Program of 1973, as amended, is totally abolished so that the City of South Bend could establish its' own property tax rate; or if the South Bend Common council adopts a Local Option :income, Tax Program. SECTION III. In addition to the foregoing annual pay, the officers and sworn members of the fire department shall receive compensation for the extra duty and special performance for the calendar years of 1982 and 1983 as follows: (a) For recall or overtime pay, time and one -half.
