<br />AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE ANNUAL PAY OF 
<br />FIREFIGHTERS FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1982, 
<br />1983, and 1984 
<br />ATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT 
<br />The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, 
<br />recognizes that Indiana Code Section 18- 1 -11 -2 specifically authorizes 
<br />the Common Council to set salaries for the Fire Department. 
<br />The Common Council further recognizes that its' Wage Committee 
<br />and the Firefighters Wages Committee reached agreement on a three year 
<br />pay package which was duly ratified by the Firefighters. 
<br />The Common Council therefore has decided that the following 
<br />provisions be included in the Salary Ordinance for the South Bend Fire- 
<br />fighters for the calendar years 1982, 1983, and 1984. 
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY 
<br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows: 
<br />SECTION I. The annual pay of the officers and sworn members of the 
<br />Fire Department by rank, classification and service years shall be as 
<br />follows:

<br />The first service year for a firefighter commences upon his being 
<br />sworn in as a firefighter. The Firefighter shall obtain his second 
<br />service year on the next succeeding first day of January until he attains 
<br />the maximum salary for the particular rank he may hold. 
<br />SECTION II. The above salary schedule is subject to renegotiate 
<br />only if the Indiana Property Tax Control Program of 1973, as amended, is 
<br />totally abolished so that the City of South Bend could establish its' 
<br />own property tax rate; or if the South Bend Common council adopts a 
<br />Local Option :income, Tax Program. 
<br />SECTION III. In addition to the foregoing annual pay, the officers 
<br />and sworn members of the fire department shall receive compensation for 
<br />the extra duty and special performance for the calendar years of 1982 and 
<br />1983 as follows: 
<br />(a) For recall or overtime pay, time and one -half. 
<br />(b) For regularly assigned drivers of fire trucks and other heavy 
<br />equipment, the tillerman, the personnel assigned to drive ambulances on 
<br />regular or rotation basis, $250.00 per year.
