ORDINANCE NO. (05( %0 -,a -k AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 6657 -79, TO MODIFY THE NON- REVERTING INSURANCE PREMIUM AND LIABILITY RESERVE FUND. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT: The Common Council of the City of South Bend has deter- mined that it is in the best interest of the City for the City to become self - insured in certain areas of public liability imposed upon it by law arising from the ownership of property and acts of its employees in the course of providing services. To further its fiscal responsibility for the City, the Common Council established the Liability Insurance Premium and Reserve Fund in order to cover areas of retained liability. In addition, it authorized payment of certain departmental safety coordinators. Increased experience under self- insurance has revealed that pay- ment of safety coordinators is an unnecessary expense and that safety committees would better further the stated goals of en- couraging safety consciousness throughout the City's operations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend: SECTION I. That Section I (A) of Ordinance 6657 -79, entitled Payment of Certain Departmental Safety Coordinators, be deleted in its entirety. SECTION II.
