BILL NO. ORDINANCE NO. YD!L -tY4 AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $20,000.00 FROM THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT FUND FOR THE SUPPORT OF SPECIALIZED TRANSPORTATION SERVICES TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH ITS DIVISION OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND SPECIALIZED TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM OF ST. JOSEPH COUNTY. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT: The City of South Bend, in creative and affirmative partnership with residents, private enterprise, and the Federal Government, is committed to the goal of improving the "quality of life" in the city, its neighborhoods, and for its residents. There is a growing recognition that special publics, like the handicapped have particular needs which should be addressed so that they, too, can experience positive change in their daily lives. As a part of this effort, it is acknowledged that specialized transportation services can make an impact on those persons who would otherwise find it most difficult or impossible to travel from their residences to other destinations throughout the City. The Division of Community Development, therefore, requires funds enabling the Specialized Transportation System of St. Joseph County to make its specialized van transportation services available to appropriate Community Development Neighborhood Strategy Area residents. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, as follows: SECTION I. The sum of $20,000.00 is hereby appropriated for the program year starting July 7, 1981 from the Community Block Grant Fund (Program Year 1981). This appropriation is to be administered by the Division of Community Development and the Specialized Transportation System of St. Joseph County, as set forth below: PROGRAM CD -81 -503 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM Purpose Amount Specialized Transportation $ 20,000.00 Services TOTAL: $ 2.0,000.00 SECTION II.
