PARENT, Mayor <br />COUNTY-CITY BUILDING o SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, 46601 <br />DIVISION OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT <br />M E M O R A N D U M <br />TO: Members of the Common Council <br />FROM: Colleen Rosenfeld, Community Development Director <br />SUBJECT: 1981 CDBG Unspecified Local Option Appropriation <br />for Specialized Transportation System <br />DATE: December 9, 1981 <br />b <br />1440 County -City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana 46601 <br />(219) 264.9336 <br />Specialized Transportation System of St. Joseph County has requested <br />assistance from the City of South Bend to operate their program of <br />providing accessible transportation service to handicapped residents. <br />STS is an adjunct of Transpo which operates vans equipped with lifts to <br />facilitate use by persons in wheelchairs. <br />For the calendar year beginning January 1, 1982, STS will no longer <br />receive funding from Section 8 or CETA and hasn't been provided an increase <br />in funding, over 1981 levels from Transpo. This initial appropriation by <br />the City is to assist in the delivery of their services and to encourage <br />additional funding from other sources in the community. <br />The City administration will assist STS in any way possible in <br />securing the necessary additional funds. <br />The City and the Common Council proposes funding STS on a one -time <br />basis with the CDBG funds being utilized for services delivered to <br />residents of neighborhood strategy areas. Community Development Block <br />Grant funds may be used to fund this activity under the Public Service <br />category. <br />Should you have any questions concerning this appropriation request, <br />please contact me at 284 -9335.
