City of South Bend
Public Works Guaranteed Energy Savings Contract Qualifications
Life is On Schneider
Electric
Schneider Electric has conducted a viability review for the potential solar production at the Olive Water
Treatment Plant. We first isolated the known limiting factors impacting system size. In review of existing
pole mounted transformers, our solar engineering team found the existing utility transformers can
potentially allow for up to 22SkW. Their suggestion is to keep the system size under 180kW to not
overload the transformer and thus allow for the existing headroom to not interrupt service. This would
require a line side tap junction outside the main gear at the GAC Building - due to existing conditions at
the panel limiting a load side tap to 29kW.
System Sizing
System Size kW -DC 316
System Size kW -AC 250
Design Intent Muimum Return on Investment
System Type Ground
I.dule'."ttage 550
Modules Quantity 574
Inverters Ruantity 5
optimizers Ruantity 0
Baseline Energy vs Solar Production
120,000
100,000
60.01)0
40,000 - - - - -
20,000 — — — —
0
Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec
— Baseline Energy Sotar Production
of Total Site Energy
402,798
7594
742,888,
65%
•3olar Production • Utility Purchased
After receiving the electrical energy data, our energy engineering team was able to calculate the
estimated system size, based on several factors, to estimate best ROL American Electric Power will
require the City of South Bend to interconnect these systems under the Excess Distribution Generation
Rider. This rider offers an overproduction credit of $0.03610/kWh. The current rate structure combines
the facilities energy and demand to one billed cost. Due to the rate structure, system sizing should be
based on minimum demand. Further evaluation of interval data on each meter will allow for an exact
target system size.
Wells 3and6 1 124 95% 1,133 0 99 MinpeakkW 99 0Ea- Dist Gen 99 1.25
Olive Garages TOO SMALL FOB SOlAB TO BE FEASIBLE!!! 85% 1,133 0 5 MinpeakkW 5 SEa-Dist Gen 0 1.25
Wella4and5 1 62 80% 1,133 0 49 MinpeakkW 49 OEa-Dist Gen 49 1.25
Wellsland2&OFF' 1 893,700 131 80% 1,133 631 106 MinpeakkW 106 OE-ss Dist Gen 106 1.25
It is vital to recognize that this location has 4 actual meters. As such, each meter/account must be
evaluated independently rather than grouping them all as one customer/user.
Here is our analysis of each account based on the data we have been provided:
The annual energy data for meter 611322382 (wells 1, 2, GAC & Office) was input into our system. The
estimated system size for this geographical location and rate structure would be approximately 133kW
DC to minimize overproduction and maximize ROL This site would be in the southwest section of the
site overview. The system would include a fence and landscaping. The interconnection would be located
at the north side of GAC building. Directional boring can be used in place of trenching based off site
schematics.
