Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the Council
<br />Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, May 9, 1994, at 7:00 p.m. The
<br />meeting was called to order and the Pledge to the Flag was given.

<br />REPORT FROM THE SUB - COMMITTEE ON MINUTES
<br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend:
<br />The sub - committee has inspected the minutes of the April 11 and 16th meetings of the
<br />Council and found them correct.
<br />Therefore, we recommend the same be approved.

<br />Council Member Coleman made a motion that the minutes of the April 11, and 16th,
<br />meetings of the Council be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Council Duda.

<br />SPECIAL BUSINESS
<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2119 -94 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
<br />BEND, INDIANA, ENDORSING THE PROGRAM "THIS IS MY
<br />NEIGHBORHOOD: NO SHOOTING ALLOWED"
<br />WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, acknowledges
<br />that a partnership of individuals and organizations throughout our community is
<br />supporting the program entitled "This is my Neighborhood: No Shooting Allowed ", and
<br />WHEREAS, that under the guidance of the Honorable Jeanne Jourdan, Judge of the
<br />St. Joseph Superior Court, many businesses, including St. Joseph Medical Center,
<br />Memorial Hospital of South Bend, Valley American Bank, the United Religious
<br />Community, WSBT, WNDU, the South Bend Silver Hawks, the South Bend Police Department,
<br />Cindy Eastman, Chairperson of Leadership XX, the teachers of the South Bend Community
<br />School Corporation, St. Joseph County Bar Association, and countless other concerned
<br />citizens have donated their time and resources to the programs; and
<br />WHEREAS, on May 4, 1994, in the Century Center, a multi - dimensional art project
<br />of 6th grade students of the South Bend Community School Corporation was unveiled
<br />along with over 250 photographs provided by nearly 500 5th graders; and
<br />WHEREAS, May 18, 1994, WSBT will broadcast live a program dealing with topics of
<br />children and violence with audience participation and a gun exchange program to take
<br />place at Potowatomi Park that day; and
<br />WHEREAS, May 22, 1994 will be "This is my Neighborhood' Mp Shooting Allowed Day"
<br />at the Coveleski Stadium where free admission will be given to all children ages 12
<br />and under who turn in a toy gun; and
<br />WHEREAS, the South Bend Common Council endorses "This is my Neighborhood: No
<br />Shooting Allowed" as a permanent program in the City of South Bend, Indiana.
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Common Council of the City of South Bend,
<br />Indiana, as follows:
<br />Section I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, hereby
<br />endorses and proudly supports the program commonly known as "This is My Neighborhood:
<br />No Shooting Allowed ".
<br />Section II. The Council THANKS all of the many corporate and individual
<br />sponsors who have taken leadership positions in spearheading the program "This is my
<br />Neighborhood: No Shooting Allowed ", and in particular, Judge Jeanne Jourdan.
<br />Section III. The Common Council urges all residents of our community to
<br />participate in all of the planned projects to take place in this month, and to take
<br />positive and constructive action in curbing crime and violence in each of their
<br />neighborhoods.
<br />Section IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after
<br />its adoption by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor.
