SOUTH BEND PUBLIC UTILITIES
224 North Main Street
P.O. Box 1714
MICHAEL L. VANCE
Director of Utilities
Mrs. Beverlie Beck
President
Common Council
City of South Bend
Dear Mrs. Beck:
CITY ®f SOUTH ]SEND
ROGER O. PARENT, Mayor
COUNTY -CITY BUILDING SOUTH BEND, INDIANA 46601
March 9, 1983
219/284 -9322
There will be presented at first reading of the March 14,
1983 Council Meeting an ordinance affirming a contract between the
Board of Water Commissioners and Carl J. Reinke and Sons, Inc. in
the amount of $148,000.00 for the expansion of the Edison Filtration
Plant clear well. The Board had previously taken bids on this
project last year. An award was not made due to the extreme high
figures bid in relation to the engineer's estimate.
We would like to go ahead with the project as revised because
it still has the potential to eliminate the cost of adding poly
phosphate to the system to inhibit rust. Based on current chemical
costs this project could pay for itself with in four to five years
when completed.
If you have further questions, please feel free to contact my
office.
Sincerely,
Wd"
Michael L. QVance
Director of Utilities
MLV /mtw
