HOUSING SPECIALIST <br />BUREAU OF HUMAN RIGHTS /DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES <br />AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br />DEFINITION <br />Has general responsibility for the administration of a fair housing <br />program which is designed to identify and eliminate barriers to <br />equal housing opportunities and to encourage those activities that <br />foster fair housing. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br />1. Provides educational services and advice to members of private <br />lending and housing industries. <br />2. Assists in the development and administration of specific <br />affirmative marketing practices within the private housing <br />industry. <br />3. Identifies the various neighborhood and citizen groups within <br />the City concerned with housing discrimination and assists <br />them in their efforts to promote fair housing. <br />4. Assists various local, state and federal governmental agencies <br />in the overall task oL" providing equal opportunity in housing. <br />5. Performs intake, investigation and resolution of housing <br />discrimination charges that come before the Commission. <br />EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS <br />EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE_: Any combination of education and <br />:pork experience equivalent to at least two years of college. <br />It is desired that candidate have some experience in <br />investigative techniques, real estate sales, and connunity relations. <br />KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of basic legal regulations <br />related to housing discrimination; knowledge of the lending <br />and real estate industries and how they function; ability to <br />research laws and regulations; ability to understand new legal <br />definitions; ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a <br />wide variety of persons; and the ability to appear in public <br />and speak in behalf of the City's fair housing laws.
