REGULAR MEETING DECEMBER 23, 1996 <br />A hearing was held on the resolution at this time. Council <br />President Coleman read the resolution. Ann Puzzello, 1247 E. <br />LaSalle, a former Council Member, Kevin Horton, City Controller, <br />Jean Chizar, 2202 Portage, and Bill Borders, 946 Roosevelt, spoke <br />in favor of this resolution. Council Member Pfeifer made a <br />motion to adopt the resolution by acclamation, seconded by <br />Council Member Varner. The motion carried. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2431 -96 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF <br />THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />COMMENDING THOMAS ZAKRZEWSKI, SIXTH <br />DISTRICT COUNCIL MEMBER, FOR HIS 13 <br />YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />Whereas, the South Bend Common Council proudly acknowledges <br />that Thomas Zakrzewski has served as Sixth District Council <br />Member for the past thirteen years; and <br />Whereas, the Council acknowledges that when Council Member <br />Zakrzewski was first elected he was unable to partake in Holiday <br />Spirits cause he was too young; and <br />Whereas, despite being the youngest Council Member ever <br />elected to serve on the South Bend Common Council, Tom Zakrzewski <br />used his energy, youth, and enthusiasm to pursue many new and <br />innovative causes for the citizens of South Bend, and in <br />particular the residents of the Sixth District; and <br />Whereas, Council Member Zakrzewski has diligently served <br />under Mayor Roger 0. Parent and Mayor Joseph E. Kernan; has held <br />every elected officer position of the Council from Council <br />President and Vice - President to Chairperson of the Committee of <br />the Whole; has chaired the most powerful committees of the <br />Council; and has answered thousands of citizen calls and requests <br />over his thirteen years of service; and <br />Whereas, Council Member Zakrzewski a /k /a "Junk Yard Czar" <br />has faithfully inspected on an annual basis each of the recycling <br />centers wishing to operate in the City; fought hard to ensure the <br />rights and voices of the citizens of the West Side during the <br />debates on the Ethanol Plant; was instrumental in making <br />Coveleski Stadium a reality; challenged the City Administration <br />to focus on a paved alley program which would enhance the older <br />sections of our fine City; championed enforceable truck route <br />legislation, and supported the Belleville Softball Complex which <br />is scheduled to open in 1997 -- -with these just being some of the <br />many vital activities Tom Zakrzewski has dedicated his time and <br />efforts to in his 13 years of service. <br />Now, Therefore, Be it Ordained by the Common Council of the <br />City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of <br />South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council hereby publicly commends <br />Thomas Zakrzewski for his thirteen (13) years of dedicated and <br />enthusiastic service to the citizens of South Bend and in <br />particular the residents of the Sixth District and the entire <br />West side. <br />Section II. The Common Council notes that Council Member <br />Zakrzewski just turned 34 years old last week, but is today the <br />"Dean of the Council" by having the longest current tenure on the <br />South Bend Common Council. <br />Section III. The South Bend Common Council wishes Tom well <br />as he takes on career endeavors as the newly elected Treasurer of <br />St. Joseph County; wishes him, his wife, Mindy, and their entire <br />family continued success; and gratefully says Dzienkuje on behalf <br />of all of South Bend!!!! <br />
