ORDINANCE NO. 7203 -83 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SOUTH BEND MUNICIPAL CODE, CHAPTER 2, ENTITLED ADMINISTRATION, TO ADD A NEW ARTICLE 2, ENTITLED DEPUTY MAYOR STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT: The 1983 Indiana General Assembly amended I.C. 36 -4 -5 to add new Sections 8 and 9, which establishes the succession to the office of Mayor in the event of the Mayor's absence or the vacancy of the office of Mayor. I.C. 36 -4 -7 gives the Common Council the authority to establish by ordinance the position of Deputy Mayor. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, as follows: SECTION I. The South Bend Municipal Code is amended at Chapter 2, entitled Administration, to add a new Article 2, entitled Deputy Mayor, which shall read as follows: ARTICLE 2. DEPUTY MAYOR. Section 2 -12.2. The position of Deputy Mayor is established, with responsibilities to include serving as Mayor in the absence of the Mayor and in the event of vacancy in the office of the Mayor. The Deputy Mayor shall be appointed by the Mayor and shall serve at this pleasure. The position of Deputy Mayor shall be a non - funded position. SECTION II. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor.
