CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />DEPARTMENT OF <br />CITY & BOWMAN CEMETERIES <br />214 ELM STREET <br />PHONE 284 -9458 <br />June 8, 1983 <br />Mrs. Beverlie Beck, President <br />South Bend Common Council <br />227 West Jefferson, Boulevard <br />South Bend, Indiana. 46601 <br />Dear Mrs. Becks <br />The Bureau of Cemeteries is requesting the Common Council to <br />approve the enclosed ordinance appropriating $32,500.00 from <br />the City Cemetery Trust Fund. <br />Interest earned in the Cemetery Trust Fund stands at $50,902.00 <br />as of this date. <br />Approximately $30,000.00 for the installation of a guard rail <br />along LaPorte Avenue (1245 feet); along Walnut Street (547 feet) <br />at City. Cemetery. This sum to be appropriated to Account 0417, <br />Other Structures. The bidding process to be administered by the <br />Board of Public Works. <br />Two thousand five hundred dollars will be appropriated to Account <br />0360, Buildings and Structure Repair, to reimburse the fund for the <br />large repair costs of the fence replacement in December, 1982. <br />Twelve sections of fencing were wiped out by hit and run drivers. <br />I feel that this request is a high priority item for the protection <br />of the historic wrought iron fence at the City Cemetery. <br />Your approval of this ordinance will be appreciated. <br />Very truly yours, <br />Bureau of Cemeteries <br />Robert Niezgodski <br />Sexton <br />RCN /fb <br />Enclosure <br />
