Department of Public Parks Administration Building St. Louis Boulevard at Wayne Street South ,Bend, Indiana 46617 PHONE: (219) 284 -9401 March 7, 1984 Members of the Common Council County -City Building 227 West Jefferson Boulevard South Bend, Indiana Dear Council Members: The Department of Public Parks is requesting your approval of the enclosed ordinance appropriating $1,060,000.00 which will be re- ceived from the United States Department of the Interior and $34,697.00 from the United States Small Business Administration. The Park Department applied for the grants to help finance the con- struction of the East Race Way and hydro- electric project. Five hundred and sixty thousand dollars was approved for the East Race, five hundred thousand for the hydro- electric project and $34,697.00 for landscaping. The grants are reimbursable grants which means the Park Department must spend funds from the park bond issue before grant payments can be made. The City has received $918,164.59 to date from the grant funds. The Race Way Project is ninety -eight per cent complete with some land- scaping, railings and bench work yet to be completed.
