This inlet connection (shoe) shall be oversized to tit cold and <br />new pipe, having O.D, range from six and nine -tenths (6.90) inches to seven and cane -tenth (7.10) <br />inches. <br />The nominal Five (5) inch pumper nozzle shall have an LD. of at least four and three-qt.0 rter (4.75) <br />inches. The main valve size shall be fire and one -quarter (5.25) inches in diameter; the main vale <br />shall close with, and be held closed by, normal cater pressure. The inside of the Shoe, and the lower <br />plate valve. shall be epoxy -coated where exposed to pre,,surized water. When <br />work is not in progress, open ends, or pipe, fittings, and valves shall be securely closed sea that no <br />trench water, earth or other substance «ill enter the pipes or fittings. <br />Dewatering shall be performed such that dry %vorking conditions are maintained for all the <br />excavated. trenehe% and excavations, for structurrs. <br />The ❑ewatering System shall be installed in such a manner, so it does not interfere with traffic <br />maintenance. <br />Diesel dewatering equipment, including generators, may be used. Any diesel equipment utilised <br />must be sound attenuated. The equipment noise level shall comply with Article 7 - Nulse Control. <br />of the C itv of South Bend Code of Ordinances. A spill containment system (minimum size equal <br />to the fuel tank volume) shall be provided and placed. <br />A sediment filter shall be attached to the end of the dewatering discharge pipe. The sediment filler <br />shall be monitored and changed as necessary. The discharge points for the dewatering system shatl <br />be approved by the City Engineer prior to commencing construction. <br />SPECIFICATIONS: <br />WATER MAINS: <br />1. ALL FIRE HYDRANTS SHALL CONFORM TO AWWA (AMERICAN WATER WORKS ASSOCIATION) <br />STANDARD C-502. HYDRANT ASSEMBLY SHALL INCLUDE THE HYDRANT, 6%6" TEE, A 6" <br />GATE VALVE, AND ALL NECESSARY FITTINGS AND PIPE TO PLACE A HYDRANT 3' BEHIND <br />BACK OF CURB AND AT THE PROPER ELEVATION. <br />2. WATER MAIN SHALL BE CLASS 50 DUCTILE IRON PIPE MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS OF <br />AWWA. <br />3. WATER MAIN JOINTS SHALL BE BELL AND SPIGOT WITH ELASTOMERIC RUBBER GASKETS. <br />4. ALL WATER MAIN FITTINGS SHALL BE MECHANICAL JOINT, CLASS 250 GRAY IRON <br />CONFORMING TO ANSI A21.10, WITH ELASTOMERIC RUBBER GASKETS AND JOINTS. <br />5. VALVES SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH AWWA STANDARD C-509-80 FOR RESILIENT <br />WEDGE VALVES WITH A MINIMUM WORKING PRESSURE OF 150 PSI AND SHALL OPEN <br />CLOCKWISE. VALVES SHALL BE INSTALLED WITH STANDARD CAST IRON VALVE BOXES. <br />6. WATER MAIN SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM COVER OF 5 FEET 0 INCHES. <br />7. RETAINER GLANDS SHALL BE PROVIDED ON ALL VALVES AND FITTINGS, ACCORDING TO THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND STANDARDS. <br />8. CURB BOX AND SERVICES SHALL BE PROVIDED AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS. SERVICE PIPE <br />SHALL BE 1 INCH TYPE "K" COPPER, MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS OF ASTM <br />SPECIFICATIONS B55. <br />9. WATER SERVICES SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM COVER OF 5 FEET 0 INCHES. <br />10. ALL WATER SERVICES SHALL BE FITTED WITH A WATERPROOF PLUG AND SHALL BE <br />CLEARLY FIELD -MARKED WITH A 4%4" POST. <br />11. CONTRACTOR SHALL DISINFECT WATER MAIN ACCORDING TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE <br />AWWA STANDARD C-651. <br />12. THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND SHALL BE CONTACTED TO SUPERVISE AND INSPECT THE <br />PRESSURE TESTING AND THE DISINFECTING OF THE WATER MAIN AS REQUIRED. <br />13. WATER MAIN AND SEWER MAIN SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM HORIZONTAL SEPARATION OF 10 <br />FEET. WHENEVER SEWER MAINS MUST CROSS UNDER THE WATER MAIN, A MINIMUM <br />VERTICAL SEPARATION OF 18 INCHES IS REQUIRED BETWEEN THE TOP OF THE SEWER MAIN <br />AND THE BOTTOM OF THE WATER MAIN. IF THIS CANNOT BE MET, THEN THE SEWER <br />SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED OF WATER GRADE DUCTILE IRON PIPE FOR A DISTANCE OF 10 <br />FEET EACH SIDE OF THE WATER MAIN. <br />14. ALL TEES, PLUGS, DEADENDS, AND BENDS SHALL BE RESTRAINED ACCORDING TO CITY OF <br />SOUTH BEND STANDARDS. <br />15. WATER MAIN SHALL BE TESTED FOR RATE OF EX -FILTRATION AT 150 PSI FOR TWO HOURS <br />AND SHALL NOT EXCEED 10 GPD/INCH DIAMETER/MILE OF PIPE. <br />16. NO WATER MAIN SERVICES SHALL BE EXTENDED FROM A BEND IN THE WATER LINE. ALL <br />SERVICES SHALL BE EXTENDED FROM THE WATER MAIN IN THE STREET, TO A CURB VALVE <br />APPROXIMATELY TWO FEET INSIDE THE PROPOSED CURB. <br />17.
