Article 7. Mechanical Code. <br />Section 6 -36. Mechanical Inspector. <br />The Director of the Department shall appoint a mechanical <br />inspector, who shall have at least ten (10) years experience in <br />heating, air conditioning, and ventilating installation, maintenance, <br />alteration or repair. In addition, the inspector shall have a <br />thorough knowledge of the Indiana Mechanical Rules and of approved <br />materials and methods of heating, air conditioning, and ventilating <br />installation, maintenance, alterations, and repair necessary for <br />safety to persons and property. <br />Section 6 -36.1 Heating, Air Conditioning, and Ventilating <br />Examining Board. <br />(a) A Heating, Air Conditioning and Ventilating Examining <br />Board (referred to in this Article as the Board) shall examine <br />applicants for licenses under this Article, issue certificates <br />therefor to qualified applicants who have paid the prescribed fees <br />and who have passed the examination hereinafter required, and revoke <br />or suspend any license after just cause shown before such Board. <br />(b) The Board shall consist of five (5) members to be <br />appointed by the Mayor, as follows: three (3) class A contractors, <br />one (1) professional engineer with five (5) years experience in <br />heating, air conditioning and ventilation, as verified by the <br />Building Commissioner, and the Building Commissioner or his designee. <br />Members shall serve for a term of four (4) years and shall hold <br />office at the pleasure of the Mayor. Each member shall receive Ten <br />($10.00) Dollars for each meeting of the Board he attends, except for <br />the Building Commissioner or his designee, who shall serve without <br />pay. <br />(c) On the second Monday in January and the second Monday <br />in July of each year the Board or its designee shall examine <br />applicants for licenses, provided that any such applications are <br />pending. The Board may also meet at the call of the chairman of the <br />Board and provide for examinations at other times. <br />(d) The Board shall keep a record of all licenses and <br />certificates and shall have printed a manual of its rules and regu- <br />lations for the conduct of examinations. <br />(e) Three (3) members of the Board shall constitute a <br />quorum for the transaction of business, but any action taken at a <br />meeting shall require the affirmative vote of at least three (3) <br />members. <br />(f) No new license under this Article shall be issued <br />without written approval of the Board. <br />Section 6 -36.2. Heating, Air Conditioning and Ventilating <br />Licenses. <br />(a) No person shall perform or cause to be performed any <br />installation, maintenance, alteration or repair of any heating, air <br />conditioning or ventilating equipment or system without obtaining in <br />advance a license from the Controller, upon presentation of a <br />certificate issued by the Board. <br />(1) Class A Heating, Air Conditioning and Ventilating <br />Contractor's License. A Class A heating, air <br />conditioning and ventilating contractor's license may <br />be issued to a person who maintains a business <br />telephone in St. Joseph County, Indiana, and is <br />principally engaged in the business of heating, air <br />conditioning or ventilating contracting.
