EASTLAND MALL DEMOLITION
The Eastland Mall
Project was a 1.2 million
square foot former mall
building. The site
comprised of a main
mall building with
several other
outbuildings, including
Starters Grill and Target. The project incorporated both asbestos
abatement and demolition of the former mall structure. The mall
structure was made up of varying height of buildings from 1-story
sections on slab on grade to 5-story sections over basements. This
complex structure had gone through many additions and renovations
over its 60+ year lifespan. And as such, demolition techniques and
strategies were constantly changing due to the nature of the building
construction. Adamo utilized its fleet of demolition excavators
including the CAT 385 UHD, several CAT 390s, and 4-8 different support
machines equipped with pulverizes, processors, magnets and grapples.
The asbestos abatement and regulated waste removal portion of this
contract started in November 2021 with demolition following shortly
after. Due to the owner's schedule constraints, Adamo and the general
contractor worked hand in hand
to continue the flow of new
building construction while
continuing the safe demolition
of the structure. The scope of
work included crushing concrete
on site for future use. Adamo
worked with a local crushing
contractor to complete that
task.
