REGULAR MEETING APRIL 24, 2000 <br />Declaratory Resolution designating certain areas within the City as Economic Revitalization Areas <br />for the purpose of tax abatement consideration; and <br />WHEREAS, a Declaratory Resolution designated the area commonly known as 2102 West <br />Washington Street, South Bend, Indiana, and which is more particularly described as follows: <br />A parcel of land in the northeast quarter of Section 10, Township 37 North, Range <br />2 East, Portage Township, City of South Bend, Indiana, known as lots one (1) <br />through five (5) inclusive, thirty (30) through thirty -nine (39) inclusive, forty -three <br />(43) and forty-four (44) inclusive and parts of vacated streets and alleys in Arnold's <br />First Addition <br />and which has Key Number 18- 4097 - 361201, as an Economic Revitalization Area; and <br />WHEREAS, notice of the adoption of a Declaratory Resolution and the public hearing before <br />the Council has been published pursuant to Indiana code 6- 1.1- 12.1 -2.5; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council held a public hearing for the purposes of hearing all remonstrances <br />and objections from interested persons; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council has determined that the qualifications for an economic revitalization <br />area have been met. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South <br />Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION I. The Common Council hereby confirms its Declaratory Resolution designating <br />the area described herein as an Economic Revitalization Area for the purposes of tax abatement. <br />Such designation is for Real property tax abatement only and is limited to two (2) calendar years <br />from the date of adoption of the Declaratory Resolution by the Common Council. <br />SECTION II. The Common Council hereby determines that the property owner is qualified <br />for and is granted Real property tax deduction for a period of six (6) years, and further determines <br />that the petition complies with Chapter 2, Article 6, of the Municipal Code of the City of South Bend <br />and Indiana Code 6- 1.1 -12 et. sea. <br />SECTION III. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption <br />by the Common Council and approved by the Mayor. <br />s /Charlotte Pfeifer <br />Member of the Common Council <br />Mr. William Batteast, 430 East LaSalle, South Bend, Indiana, made the presentation for this <br />Resolution. <br />Mr. Batteast advised that Batteast Warehouse Partnership is asking for a tax abatement for six (6) <br />years for a warehouse facility which will be built in the West Washington- Chapin Street area at a <br />cost of approximately two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000.00). The warehouse will be <br />twelve thousand eight hundred (12,800) square feet. In conclusion, Mr. Batteast asked for the <br />Council's assistance in the development of this project. <br />A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. <br />There being no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of this tax abatement or <br />in opposition to this Resolution, Councilmember Coleman made a motion to adopt this Resolution. <br />Councilmember Kelly seconded the motion which carried and the Resolution was adopted by a roll <br />call vote of eight (8) ayes. <br />
