REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 24, 2000 <br />This being the time heretofore set for the Public Hearing on the above bill, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. <br />There being no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in opposition to this <br />bill, Councilmember Vamer made a motion for favorable recommendation to full Council <br />concerning this bill. Councilmember Coleman seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote <br />of nine (9) ayes. <br />BILL NO. 4-00 A BILL AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE AND <br />ESTABLISHING AN HISTORIC LANDMARK FOR THE <br />PROPERTY LOCATED AT 115 SOUTH LAFAYETTE, IN <br />THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />Councilmember White reported that the Zoning & Annexation Committee met on this bill and sends <br />it to the Council with a favorable recommendation. <br />Mr. John Oxian, 742 Sancome Street, South Bend, Indiana, President, Historic Preservation <br />Commission, 227 West Jefferson Boulevard, Room 1123, South Bend, Indiana, made the <br />presentation for this bill. <br />Mr. Oxian informed the Council that this building was built in 1901 as a three (3) story office <br />building by Dr. Edwin Dean. The building was constructed for professional services. Dr. Dean <br />operated in this building until his death in 1917. In 1994 the building was sold to the current owner <br />Schwander & Company. The building is of neoclassical style with a brick foundation.
