AMERESCO4
Green - Clean - Sustainable
ECM 9: Street Lighting Upgrades
Overview of ECM
This measure included the installation of LED lamps in existing streetlighting fixtures that are located over the sidewalk
areas in Olde Town Arvada. This will not only save energy, but will also enhance the quality, consistency, and color
rendering of the street lighting system.
Commissioning
After the installation of the ECM, commissioning activities were performed in accordance with Schedule Q of the EPC.
In order to verify proper installation during construction, Ameresco confirmed operation of all fixtures as they were
completed.
Measurement & Verification
The M&V Plan for this ECM was based on IPMVP Option A — Retrofit Isolation Using a Key -Parameter Measurement.
Savings for this ECM were calculated using a line -by-line lighting spreadsheet to determine the baseline and proposed
energy consumption for each lighting fixture included in the audit. Fixture quantities, fixture wattages, and hours of
lighting operation are the key variables entered into the spreadsheet calculation that determine the savings.
For this ECM, the key parameter being measured is pre and post installation fixture wattage. The hours of operation are
set forth in the lighting calculations and in Schedule D of the EPC, and they remain unchanged in calculating the
verified savings.
Pre and post installation wattage measurements were taken on a sample of the fixtures included in the audit. Wattage
measurements were grouped and averaged by fixture type to determine the actual wattage values that were used to
update the savings calculation. These measured wattages were then inserted into the exterior lighting spreadsheet
calculation to determine the verified savings. The lighting power measurements are shown in Appendix F.
The tables on the following page show the rated and measured wattages for the existing and new fixtures. Overall, the
existing fixtures were measured to use 6% more wattage than expected, and the new fixtures were measured to use
10% less wattage than expected. The net result is additional savings for this ECM, since the difference between the
existing and new wattages is slightly greater than anticipated.
City of Arvada, Colorado I Project #37213 1 M&V Report — Year 2 1 Page 21
