As you <br /> are aware, by the salary ordinance, we currently pay the following <br /> amounts to police and fire respectively: <br /> Police Department 1985 Wages <br /> Police Chief - $ 30, 630 <br /> Division Chief - 28, 230 <br /> Captains - 26,030 <br /> Fire Department 1985 Wages <br /> Fire Chief - $ 30, 630 <br /> Assistant Fire Chief - 28, 230 <br /> Battalion Chiefs - 25, 030 <br /> In reviewing our internal salary structure, it is very <br /> evident that police and fire administrative personnel are under paid <br /> in relation to their responsibilities as compared to some other <br /> positions in the City which do not have department head status. For <br /> example, the Code Enforcement Hearing Officer (Part-time Attorney) <br /> earns $20, 318 annually. The Deputy City Controller earns $31,522 <br /> annually. The Superintendent of Operations in the Water Utility earns <br /> $28, 408 annually. The Director of Engineering Services of the <br /> Department of Public Works earns $30;792 annually. The Director of <br /> Operations at Century Center who responds to the Executive Director <br /> earns $34, 011 annually. The Deputy Director of Redevelopment earns <br /> $29, 749 annually. <br /> Cl <br />
