The
ordinance appropriates $177,000 within the insurance and safety
budget of the self-insurance fund.
It is requested that $47, 000 be appropriated to account 342. 0 ,
insurance premiums. This is necessary due to the large increase in
premiums we saw during the 1985 renewal. Additionally, I am
requesting that $130, 000 be appropriated to account 391. 0, awards and
indemnities. Of the above amount, $30, 000 is due to an increased
level of claims settled during 1985. $100,000 represents those funds
necessary to restore fire station no. 6 (South Bend Theatre, Inc. ) .
As you are aware, the City' s legal department has filed suit against
Brunner, Cassady, Neeser and Hartford Insurance for the amount of the
claim. While that is being determined by the courts, we would like
to go ahead and start the rebuilding of the facility. The project
has been awarded, by the Board of Public Works, to L.L. Geans and
Company at a cost of $99,800. That award was made subject to funding
by the Common Council.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact
my office.
Sincerely,
Mit UCLAAA.A.....
Michael L.
