SECTION 15120 <br />VALVES <br />PART 1: GENERAL <br />1.1 SCOPE <br />A. Furnish all valves indicated, specified or required for satisfactory operation and complete <br />control of systems and equipment. Furnish shut-off valves in all branch connections to <br />mains and at inlets and outlets of all equipment. <br />1.2 REQUIREMENTS <br />A. Valves shall have the manufacturer's name or trademark and working pressure cast into <br />the body of the valve. Unless otherwise noted, valves shall have minimum rating of 125 <br />pound WSP. Valves shall not be smaller than line size except where specifically noted <br />or approved. <br />B. Except as noted, valves shall be as manufactured by Apollo, Conbraco, Watts, Victaulic <br />or Nibco. Valves shall be of one (1) manufacturer for each type of valve. <br />C. Valves shall be compatible with piping and fluid characteristics for system on which they <br />are installed. <br />D. On copper piping systems, equivalent sweat solder and valves from the same <br />manufacturer may be used on 2" and smaller piping, provided that seats, discs, stems, <br />wedges, etc., are removed during soldering of valve. <br />E. Valve packing and trim shall be asbestos free. <br />1.3 USAGE <br />A. Vent, shut-off or stop valves shall be ball or butterfly type. Ball valves may be used on <br />2" or smaller line sizes. Butterfly valves may be used on 2-1/2" and larger line sizes. <br />PART 2: PRODUCTS <br />2.1 BUTTERFLY VALVES <br />A. Butterfly valves 2-1/2" through 36" for “lead-free” domestic water shall be fully lugged. <br />The body shall have an extended neck for insulation. The disc shall be made of <br />aluminum bronze or stainless steel. The seat shall be EPT or EPDM, having a <br />temperature range of -20 deg. F to +275 deg. F. The seat shall employ a rigid back-up <br />ring and have a shutoff rating of 200 psi. Upper and lower reinforced bearings shall be <br />used to prevent shaft seizure. Valves 4" and larger shall have a wheel operator with gear <br />or worm connection. <br />15120 - 1
