Proposal for Construction Manager as Constructor Services
Four Winds Renovation and Expansion ― South Bend, Indiana
SAFETY
Safety is our first priority. Safety has implications for a project’s
schedule, cost, and level of quality. That’s why we hold each
member of our team responsible for job-site safety. Application of
our safety program and continuous training ensure that safety is
never compromised on our job sites. Larson-Danielson has
consistently maintained their 3-year average of recordable
incident rates below the national averages for our NAICS
classification.
Our motto of "Work Safe, Stay Safe" was developed in the early
2000's as a program to instill the awareness of safety risks and
hazards on all our jobsites. While this program served us well for
many years, in 2023 we have re-introduced our Work Safe, Stay
Safe program to our team with a new "Next Level Safety" initiative.
This renewed commitment to safety includes new procedures for
communication, team focus and monitoring to better suit the needs of today's construction teams. It also
represents Larson-Danielson's continued commitment to providing our employees and clients with safe
worksites.
Some of the major changes implemented under the Work Safe/Stay Safe program were the requirement for all
regular employees to receive OSHA 10 Hour certification, monthly safety meetings with all field supervision,
extensive safety training on the jobsites, quarterly meetings with the Amerisure and CNB partners, and the
development of a full-time safety director position to provide safety inspections on all jobsites.
Larson-Danielson’s Safety & Health Policy is directed toward continuous improvement and prevention of injuries
to everyone. We maintain an internal data management system which tracks all incidents involving employees,
the public, and subcontractors. We analyze the data over a period of several years, which permits management
and safety staff to focus on the exposures and behaviors that generate the most severe and frequent loss
incidents. This is accomplished through comprehensive project planning for not just construction operations,
but the Owner’s personnel and operations around our work areas. In addition, we have established background
check procedures that have been utilized on many of our projects. We will work with the City of South Bend
team to ensure compliance with all State laws and City of South Bend requirements.
Larson-Danielson has made a commitment to provide safety training for all our employees who are involved in
managing or performing work:
• Employees including, all Project Managers, Project Superintendents and Foremen have completed at
least an OSHA 10-hour construction safety training course.
• New employees are required to have at least a 10-hour OSHA Construction Safety Course before being
hired.
• The Safety and Health department staff maintains an Annual Training Plan which is used to assure that
each project site complies with its Site-Specific Safety Plan.
• Larson-Danielson maintains a comprehensive substance abuse policy and program that includes pre-
employment, on-site, post incident and reasonable suspicion testing. Larson-Danielson also requires
substance abuse programs of its subcontractors and would propose making this a requirement for the
prequalification of first-tier subcontractors.
