Your project will create a lot of interest in the community. That interest will naturally draw onlookers to the
site. Therefore, safety for faculty and staff, fans, stakeholders, and those interested in tracking the project’s progress
will be of the utmost importance to all involved.
Safety starts with thoughtful planning and an early agreement during preconstruction on a logistics plan between the
City of South Bend, the South Bend Cubs, and Hagerman regarding items such as laydown areas (where materials are
staged), placement of job trailers, construction worker parking, heavy equipment staging, project phasing, etc. From
there, the placement of fencing, and installation of signs clearly articulating activity such as traffic patterns, etc., takes
place. These are all individual action items within the overall project safety plan that will be produced and
communicated early in the process.
Continuous communication will be essential. This is especially important if project activities that could be somewhat
disruptive to the facility and staff. Vigilance is also critical to maintaining a healthy and safe environment during the life
of the overall project. Hagerman will maintain a worksite that is as clean and orderly as possible. We will
constantly monitor those barriers put in place to keep everyone safe, and we will communicate our intended activities
on an ongoing basis with all designated Owner’s representatives to ensure understanding and appropriate actions from
all involved.
Many initiatives reinforce our commitment to safety:
• Clear operating procedures and guidelines
• Continuous training and coaching
• Accountability at all levels
• Rigorous audit processes with action plans and coaching sessions designed to foster continuous improvement
• Corporate leadership included in the performance of safety audits
• Sharing best practices among all our operations
We ensure that each employee, subcontractor, and owner
receive access to our Safety Manual via Hagerman’s
password-protected website link.
