Over the past several weeks the respective negotiating teams for the City of South Bend and the South Bend Fire Fighters Association, Local No. 362, have been meeting to negotiate benefits and wages. The negotiating teams reached a tentative agreement which was ratified by the membership of the South Bend Fire Fighters Association, Local No. 362, on July 10th and 11th. The City Negotiating Team believes that the attached ordinance incorporates a fair wage and benefit package for the Fire Department for the calendar years 1987 and 1988, that said costs are appropriate in view of the overall requirements and that the City can afford said package. The City Negotiating Team further believes that the overall goals of achieving increased productivity resulting in better service to the public and decreasing paid time off will also be achieved through the terms of this agreement. We believe that the negotiating process has worked and that the negotiations with the Wage Committee of the South Bend Fire Fighters Association, Local No. 362 were conducted in a professional and positive atmosphere.
