PUBLIC AGENDA SESSION JANUARY 16, 2013 1 <br />The Board of Public Safety met in the Public Agenda Session at 8:04 a.m. on Wednesday, January <br />16, 2013 in the 13`h Floor Board Conference Room, County -City- Building, 227 West Jefferson Blvd., <br />South Bend, Indiana, with Board President Patrick D. Cottrell and Board Members Laura Vasquez, <br />Eddie Miller, John Collins, and Luther Taylor present. Also present was Fire Chief Stephen Cox, <br />Police Chief Charles Hurley, and Attorney Andrea Beachkofsky. <br />The meeting was held in the Board of Public Works Meeting Room, 13`h Floor County City <br />Building, South Bend, Indiana. <br />Board members discussed the following agenda items: <br />- Promotion to Assistant Chief and Commendation <br />Ms. Beachkofsky informed the Board that Mayor Buttigieg would be present for both the promotion <br />of Assistant Chief John Corthier and the commendation for Firefighter Ben Noell. She added if <br />Sergeant Bryan Miller, Police Department, was present, she would like to move up his promotion on <br />the agenda so the Mayor could acknowledge that also. <br />- Monthly Statistical Analysis —Fire Department <br />Chief Steve Cox stated the most important thing to note was in the year of 2012 there were no fire <br />fatalities. He stated he researched records and could not find any previous year with no fatalities in <br />the history of the Fire Department. Mr. Luther Taylor stated he could not recall a year in his twenty <br />(20) years of serving as Chief of the Fire Department that there were no fatalities, and the Fire <br />Department is to be commended for their work. <br />- Monthly Statistical Analysis -- Police Department <br />Police Chief Charles Hurley stated the Police Department continues to see a 20% decline in crime <br />overall, He noted he cannot recall any previous year when there was a 20% decline in all Part 1 <br />crimes, so this is commendable for the Police Department in the same way the Fire Department is to <br />be commended for no fatalities. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, Mr. Cottrell declared the meeting <br />adjourned at 8:08 a.m. <br />BOARD OF PPUBLIC SAFETY <br />a? 21 ` <br />Patrick D.
