REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 28, 2013 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Council President Dieter announced that the South Bend Common Council will host a meet & <br />greet to welcome new South Bend Police Chief Ronald Teachman from 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday, <br />February 7, 201 at the Kroc Center, 900 W. Western Avenue. The public is welcome to attend. <br /> <br />Councilmember Oliver Davis announced that the Public Works & Property Vacation Committee <br />will continue discussion on the groundwater issues and concerns near the former New Energy <br />(Ethanol) Plant on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the Rum Village Nature Center, 2626 South <br />Gertrude, South Bend, Indiana. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 4232-13 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL <br /> OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br /> DECLARING THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 4, <br /> 2013 AS NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELING <br /> WEEK IN SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br /> <br />Whereas, the South Bend Common Council recognizes that school counselors are <br />employed in public and private schools to help students reach their full potential ; and <br /> <br />Whereas, school counselors are actively committed to helping students explore their <br />abilities, strengths, interest and talents as these traits relate to career awareness and development; <br />and <br /> <br />Whereas, school counselors help parents focus on ways to further the educational, <br />personal and social growth of their children; and <br /> <br />Whereas, school counselors work closely with teachers and other educators to help <br />students explore their individual potentials and set realistic goals for themselves; and <br /> <br />Whereas, school counselors seek to identify and utilize community resources that can <br />enhance and complement comprehensive school counseling programs and help students become <br />productive members of society; and <br /> <br />Whereas, comprehensive developmental school counseling programs are considered an <br />integral part of the educational process that enable all students to achieve success in school. <br /> <br />Now, Therefore, be it Resolved, by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana as <br />follows: <br /> <br />Section I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, believes now more <br />than ever in light of the many challenges facing our educational school systems – from funding <br />to safety, that key individuals which can and will continue to contribute to positive youth <br />engagement are the critical role which school counselors have day in and day out. <br /> <br />Section II. The Council therefore declares that the week of February 4, 2013 as <br />“National School Counseling Week” in South Bend, Indiana, and thanks all school counselors <br />for their many contributions aimed at the betterment of our youth. <br /> <br /> Section III. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption <br />by the Council and approval by the Mayor. <br /> <br />s/Tim Scott, First District s/Oliver J.
