BILL NO. <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 1C731- K7 <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br /> INDIANA, AMENDING VARIOUS SECTIONS OUTLINING <br /> CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE 8 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE <br /> OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, ENTITLED <br /> CITY OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES <br /> STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br /> In 1986, the City's Wage Negotiating Team was appointed by the city <br /> Administration and Common Council to negotiate salary and fringe benefits on <br /> behalf of the City. <br /> Following a series of negotiating sessions, agreements were reached <br /> with regard to specify pay policies and procedures. <br /> As a result of these agreements, Ordinance Nos. 7667-86 and 7675-86 <br /> were passed by the Common Council and a subsequent written agreement was <br /> approved by the City and Teamster local No. 364. <br /> The following ordinance amends the relevant sections of the City Code <br /> addressing: sick leave for all officers and employees; annual vacations for <br /> officers and employees; and holidays. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of <br /> South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br /> SECTION I. Chapter 2, Article 8, Sections 2-119, 2-120, and 2-121, <br /> are hereby deleted in their entirety and amended to read as follows: <br /> Section 2-119 SICK LEAVE FOR ALL OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES. <br /> (a) Employees hired prior to January 1, 1987, shall retain their sick <br /> leave previously accrued until January 1, 1987. Employees hired prior to <br /> January 1, 1987, with less than forty-five (45) days shall be entitled to <br /> continue to accrue said sick leave as provided for in Sub-section (c) <br /> herein. Employees as of December 31, 1987, who have between forty-five (45) <br /> and ninety (90) sick days shall have said sick leave frozen at the amount <br /> they then have. Said employees may utilize said sick leave thereafter, but <br /> once used, said sick leave may only be replenished up to forty-five (45) <br /> days as provided for in Sub-section (c) herein. <br /> (b) All employees listed above, except as hereinafter provided, shall <br /> be entitled to an extended Sick and Accident Program, which program shall <br /> have a duration of seventeen (17) weeks and said employees shall thereafter <br /> be entitled to participate in the City Long Term Disability Program. <br /> Notwithstanding the above, employees who had, as of December 31, 1986, more <br /> than sixty-five (65) days as of said date shall have the right to continue <br /> to accrue up to ninety (90) days, but in the event that said employees elect <br /> to continue under the ninety (90) day program, such employees shall not be <br /> entitled to participate in the City's Long Term Disability Program. <br /> (c) All employees employed as of January 1, 1987, or thereafter, will <br /> accrue sick leave at the rate of eight (8) days per year or 2/3 days per <br /> mnnth with a maximim allnwahla annriial of fnrty-f-h (L151 einlr nave <br />
