Joint Meeting of the Health &Public Safety Committee and the Personnel &Finance Committee
August 19,2001
Page 2
Council Member Kirsits voiced concern about the proposed plan of action outlined by the Mayor if
a ratification is not achieved and noted that he could not be a part of such a proposal.
Discussion then took place on whether a motion to reconsider or new ordinance addressing
"technical corrections" then took place. Dr. Varner voiced concern over calling a bill in the title a
"technical corrections" when a significant portion of the ordinance would be amended. The
Council Attorney noted that the motion to reconsider in the Council Rules would be required to be
made by a member of the majority voting on the measure at this evening's special Council meeting
and that the procedure calls for final action on such motion at the next regular Council meeting.
In light of Council Member White's suggestion to clarify the process,Mayor Luecke noted that he
would include this concern in his remarks. Council President Pfeifer also noted that the
explanation should be precise and clear.
Following discussion, Council Member Kelly made a motion, seconded by Council Member King
that 2d substitute Bill No. 69-01 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, Council Member King adjourned
the meeting at 5:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Council Member Andrew Ujdak, Chairperson
Health and Public Safety Committee
KCF:kmf
Attachments
