COMM itta ZtpOr t: <br /> Public Works and Property Vacation Committee <br /> so the Common t01MtiI of the Qitp of lout) Veit: <br /> The March 27, 2000 meeting of the Public Works and Property Vacation Committee was <br /> called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member David Varner at 4:00 p.m. in the <br /> Council informal meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: Coleman, Pfeifer, Kirsits, White, <br /> Varner, Aranowski, and Kelly; Citizen Member Khadijah Muhummad, Wayne Blad, Dea <br /> Andrews,James Evans, Michael J. Danch, Terry Bland of the Rona) n ZribU M, <br /> and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. <br /> Council Member Varner noted that Ann E. Kolata, Deputy Executive Director of <br /> Community&Economic Development, sent a letter dated March 27, 2000 (copy attached) <br /> requesting that Bill No. 24-00 regarding the proposed vacation of Tutt Street between Main <br /> and Lafayette be withdrawn. <br /> Dr. Varner then proceeded to have public hearing on Bill No. 26-00 which is a request to <br /> vacate Bendix Drive from the south right-of-way of the first east-west alley south of <br /> Calvert Street and Delaware Street from the west right-of-way of Bendix Drive to the east <br /> right-of-way of vacated Kaley street both streets located in the Richland 2nd Addition. Dr. <br /> Varner noted that the request received a favorable recommendation from the Board of <br /> Public Works(Board minutes of the March 27, 2000 meeting attached). <br /> Mr. Wayne Blad of 58995 Mayflower Road made the presentation. He stated that he and <br /> his family have been farming the area since the early 1920's and did not realize that these <br /> streets were on the plat. The vacation would correct this situation. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Aranowski made a motion, seconded by Council <br /> Member Kirsits that Bill No. 26-00 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion <br /> passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 29-00 which is a request to vacate the first <br /> north/south alley east of McPherson Street located in the Willett's Subdivision of Bank <br /> Outlot 89. Dr. Varner noted that the request received a favorable recommendation from the <br /> Board of Public Works (Board minutes of the March 27, 2000 meeting attached). <br /> Dea Andrews, Administration Manager for South Bend Heritage Foundation, made the <br /> presentation. She reviewed the handouts she provided which included a map of the area in <br /> question and the draft site plan (copies attached). She noted that the vacation is necessary <br /> in order to expand the parking for the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ and the Elks <br /> LaSalle Landing Lodge. <br /> Mr. James Evans, CEO of the Elks LaSalle Landing Lodge, spoke in favor of the proposed <br /> vacation and the need for additional parking. <br /> • <br /> r— - - - <br />
