• Keep the caller on the line as long as possible by asking questions (If the caller hangs up do not <br />use the telephone on which the threat was received.) <br />• Call police immediately after call from another telephone or ask another person to call the police <br />immediately. <br />• Do not search for the explosive device or touch any unusual or suspicious objects. <br />Questions to Ask the Caller <br />• When will the bomb explode? <br />• Where is it? <br />• What does it look like? <br />• What kind of bomb is it? <br />• What will cause it to explode? <br />• Why was it placed in the building? <br />• Did you place the bomb? <br />• What is your name? <br />• Observe the Caller <br />Try to identify the following about the caller: <br />• Caller's gender <br />• Approximate age <br />• Voice characteristics, accents, etc. Is the voice familiar? <br />• Background noises <br />Suspicious Package Found <br />If a suspicious package is found, do not touch it, tamper with it, or move it. Call 9-1-1 and let them know a <br />suspicious package has been found. Include package characteristics in your emergency call. <br />Suspicious Package Characteristics: <br />• Appearance — Stiffness or springiness of contents; protruding wires or components; oily outer <br />wrappings or envelope; feels like it contains a powdery substance. <br />• Smell — Particularly almond or other suspicious odors. <br />• Writing — Handwriting indicates a foreign style not normally received, cut -and -paste letters or <br />rub on block letters are used. Common words, titles or names are misspelled. <br />Security <br />• Police will be in attendance on and off during the event. <br />• South Bend Police has been advised of the event. <br />Toilet Provision <br />• 2 port -potties placed on the parade route (refer to attached site plan) — including one disability <br />toilet. Hand sanitizer is available in the portable restrooms. <br />
