09 City of South Bend, Indiana | Safe Routes to School (SRTS) – Kennedy Academy | February 14, 2023 <br />RELEVANT PROJECTS <br />BLACKISTON MILL ROAD IMPROVEMENTS <br />CLIENT: Town of Clarksville, Indiana <br />PROJECT: Blackiston Mill Road – Segment 1 (Federal Aid Project) <br />STAFF: Brian Arterbery – Project with previous firm <br />Brian Arterbery was the Project Manager and Engineer in Responsible Charge <br />for this intersection improvement and roadway reconstruction project that <br />improved the Blackiston Mill Road corridor with the intersection of Lewis & Clark <br />Parkway and north along Blackiston Mill Road for 700 feet. The improvement <br />was needed as described in the Town of Clarksville’s “Blackiston Mill Road Safety <br />Project” study. <br />Segment 1 of this project included adding turn lanes at the intersection and a <br />center curb near Lewis & Clark Parkway to improve safety and prohibit left turns <br />across the roadway from the adjacent businesses. Modifications to the existing <br />traffic signal at Lewis & Clark was required. The existing storm sewer system in <br />this area was in a deteriorated condition and required complete reconstruction. <br />Curb and gutter and adjacent sidewalks were added along with needed ADA <br />improvements. The project included utility relocations. <br />CITY OF MT. VERNON SRTS VARIOUS SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS <br />CLIENT: City Of Mt. Vernon, Illinois <br />PROJECT: Safe Routes To School Various Sidewalk Improvements <br />STAFF: Mark Rujawitz – Project with previous firm <br />The City of Mt. Vernon employed the team to prepare preliminary and final <br />plans, special provisions, and estimates for the Safe Routes to School sidewalk <br />and handicap ramp improvements. The proposed work consisted of constructing <br />sidewalks, pavement marking on Peach St., Jamison Blvd., and Cherry Dr. in <br />Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and all collateral work necessary to complete the plans as <br />described. Items of Work included removing existing pavement and drainage <br />pipes, re-profiling sidewalks and ramps, constructing new curb and gutter, <br />Portland cement concrete pavement and sidewalk, new storm sewer and all <br />other miscellaneous work as necessary to complete the improvements. The <br />project was funded by the Safe Routes to School Program Fund. The team also <br />provided full construction inspection, material testing, documentation and <br />project close-out services for the City. <br />RELEVANCE: <br />• Improved intersection safety <br />• Utility relocations <br />• New Sidewalk and ADA Improvements <br />• Drainage improvements
