QCommttttt loot: <br /> Community and Economic Development Committee <br /> AGO Ujt common QC0Uttttl Of tit 1 ttV of South Stlttf: <br /> The November 8, 1999 meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee <br /> was called to order by Council Member Karl King,Vice-Chairperson of the Committee at <br /> 3:30 p.m.in the Council informal meeting room . <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: Aranowski, Pfeifer, King, Sniadecki, <br /> Varner, Hosinski, Ujdak; Sandy Phillips, Rick McKeel, Jerry Zock, Terry Bland, and <br /> Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Council Member King noted the Committee members included Council Members Ujdak, <br /> Sniadecki and himself. <br /> Council Member King stated that the first item on the agenda was to review Substitute Bill <br /> No. 99-113 which is a five (5) year personal property tax abatement request for New <br /> Carbon Company Inc., for the property located at 4101 William Richardson Drive. <br /> Cassandra Phillips then reviewed the October 25, 1999 tax abatement report (copy <br /> attached). She noted that the petitioner is a manufacturer of Golden Malted Pancake and <br /> Waffle Flour projects and commercial Waffler Bakers. The company plans to transfer <br /> $60,000 of equipment from their Buchanan,Michigan operation. The petitioner also plans <br /> to purchase $ 200,000 to $ 300,000 of new equipment. The report concluded that the <br /> petitioner meets the qualifications for a five(5)year personal property tax abatement. <br /> Mr. Rick L. McKeel,Vice-President of Finance, noted that the project will create between <br /> 5-8 new permanent jobs. They are excited to be in South Bend and noted that they had <br /> been interviewed for a television news item. <br /> In response to a question raised by Council Member King, Mr. McKeel noted that the <br /> previous tax abatement was for real property tax abatement consideration. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Sniadecki made a motion, seconded by Council <br /> Member Ujdak that Substitute Bill No. 99-113 be recommended favorably to Council. The <br /> motion passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 99-114 which is a five (5) year residential real <br /> property tax abatement request for Jerry Zock for the property located at 2313 West Ewing <br /> Avenue. <br /> Cassandra Phillips reviewed the November 2, 1999 tax abatement report (cop attached). <br /> She noted that the petitioner plans to construct a two-bedroom home of 1,250 square feet <br /> on an infill lot in the city. The report concluded that the petitioner meets the qualifications <br /> for a five(5)year residential tax abatement. <br /> Mr. Jerry Zock, the petitioner, noted that he will attempt to keep as many of the mature <br /> trees on the infill lot as possible during construction. <br /> • <br />
