Community and Economic Development Committee
November 22, 1999
Page 3
Mr. William Faust and Mr.Jim Elgin made the presentation. They noted that the petitioner
is the manufacturer of adhesives and sealants. The project would permit the construction of
a 18,000 square foot addition to provide additional space for raw material and finished
goods storage for an estimated cost of$ 396,250.00.The project would create three (3)
new permanent full-time jobs and maintains 124 existing permanent full-time jobs.
In response to a question from Council President Coleman, it was noted that they would be
the 5th owner of the property in question which they showed on an aerial photo to the
Committee. There was a Chapter 11 filing in 1992 with employment being downsized from
10,000 employees to 130 employees.
Following discussion, Council Member King made a motion, seconded by Council
Member Sniadecki, that Bill No. 99-118 be recommended favorably to Council. The
motion passed.
The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 99-119 which would authorize the Urban Enterprise
Association of South Bend, Inc. to submit an application for an Enterprise Zone boundary
modification to the Indiana Urban Enterprise Zone Board. Pam Meyer made the
presentation. She noted that the new legislation permits a maximum size zone to be
increased from three(3)to four(4) square miles. The proposed expansion would include
four (4) distinct components, namely: Allied Signal/Bosch Braking Systems, La Salle
Square Commercial Center, additional residential areas of the New Westside
neighborhood, and a portion of the Lincolnway West Corridor.
Dr. Varner requested a readable map of the area in question for the entire Council.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, Council Member Kelly
adjourned the meeting at 4:48 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Council Member Roland Kelly, Chairperson
Community and Economic Development Committee
KCF:kmf
Attachments
