She stated that new standards for behavior in development are being
proposed. She noted that the tax abatement would assist the overall project in receiving
federal funds.
In response to a question made by Council Member Aranowski it was noted that education
of the tax abatement filing requirements is a component part of the overall program.
Council Member Coleman spoke in favor of the proposed tax abatement.
Following discussion, Council Member Coleman made a motion seconded by citizen
member Sue Hogdson that Resolution No. 97 -60 be recommended favorably to Council.
The motion passed.
Then Committee then reviewed Resolution No. 97 -61 which is a five year personal tax
abatement request for Steel Warehouse Co. Inc. for property located at 2722 Tucker Dr..
Council Member Broden noted that this Resolution and Resolution 97 -62 which is a 10
year real property tax abatement request for the same petitioner in the same property
location be heard together.
Mr. Mike Beitzinger reviewed the report dated July 15, 1997 from the Community and
Economic Development department. The report noted that the project calls for construction
of approximately 100,000 sq. ft. of building additions and additional manufacturing,
warehousing and related space to be added to the comany's current facilities. Total
construction cost is between 1.4 and 2.3 million dollars. Five new permanent jobs would
be added to the payroll. The request metes all tax abatement requirement (report attached).
Mr. Jerry Lehrman the attorney for the petitioner made a further presentation. He noted
that currently there are 393 employees in the company. The company manufactures high
quality steel which require high tolerance levels which require the upgrading of the
equipment and additional facilities.
In response to a question raised by Council Member Pfeifer it is noted that there are two
women in management positions currently.
Council Member Coleman spoke in favor of both proposed resolutions.
Following discussion, Council Member Coleman made a motion seconded by citizen
member Sue Hodgson that Resolution No.s 96-61 and 97-62 be recommended favorably to
Council.
