The results of the field exploration and laboratory tests will be utilized in the engineering
analyses in formulation of the preliminary recommendations and will be presented in a
written report signed by a registered professional engineer.
A1.05 Limited Drainage Study
A. Drainage Study of the existing underground detention on the Park property to include the
following:
1. Determine existing drainage area and runoff coefficients.
2. Model the existing drainage to determine current storage volume requirements.
3. Compare volume requirements to the capacity of the existing system to determine if there
is excess capacity available.
4. Determine the proposed drainage areas and runoff coefficients.
5. Model the proposed site to determine the required storage volume.
6. If additional capacity is available in the existing underground detention system, determine
if it is adequate for the proposed storage requirements.
7. If the existing underground detention system does not have adequate storage available,
design of additional storage, either by expansion of the existing system or design of a
separate system, will be required.
8. Refer to Attachment A2 for limits of this study.
A1.06 Conceptual Planning Phase
A. The Conceptual Planning Phase scope of work will include the following:
1. Field Work – Review site conditions, including existing plant material, paving, splash pad,
baseball field, tennis courts, topography, utilities, buildings, and other site features. This
will also include a review of surrounding land uses and neighborhood context.
2. Base Map – Develop a working study area base map and site context map from which to
build concepts.
3. Programming
a. Engineer will meet with the City of South Bend and South Bend Venue and Parks
personnel.
b. Confirm preliminary Program and update document to reflect current building needs.
c. Identify building rooms and spaces including total assignable square foot and
anticipated gross square foot calculations.
