Eve and Face Protection <br />Employees working in locations where there is a risk of receiving eye injuries such as punctures, abrasions, <br />contusions, or burns as a result of coming in contact with flying particles, hazardous substances, <br />projections, or injurious light rays which are inherent to the work or environment shall be safeguarded by <br />means of face or eye protection. <br />Suitable screens or shields isolating the hazardous exposure may be considered adequate safeguarding for <br />nearby employees, i.e. welding screens. <br />Where eye protection is required and the employee requires vision correction, the following eye protection <br />shall be provided: <br />Safety glasses with suitable corrected lenses, or <br />Safety goggles designed to fit over glasses, or <br />Protective goggles with corrective lenses mounted behind the protective lenses. <br />The wearing of contact lenses is prohibited in working environments having harmful exposure to materials, <br />or light flashes, except with medically approved devices. <br />Side shields shall be worn whenever the hazard of flying objects is angular as well as frontal. <br />Body Protection <br />Protection such as rubber aprons or sleeves may be necessary in certain environments where splashing of <br />Hazardous materials or other common substances such as water would pose a risk to the employee. Flying <br />metal particles or molten metal are examples of hazards that could penetrate normal clothing and injure <br />the employee, requiring leather protective sleeves and/or vests. <br />In all cases, clothing appropriate for the work being done shall be worn. Loose sleeves, tails, ties, lapels, <br />cuffs, or other loose clothing which can become entangled in moving machinery will not be worn. <br />Clothing containing flammable liquids, corrosive substances, pesticides, irritants, or oxidizing agents shall <br />be removed and not worn until properly laundered. <br />32 <br />
