Personal Protective Equipment Policy <br />Protective equipment, including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head, and extremities, <br />protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, shall be provided, used, and <br />maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition if necessary because of hazards of processes or environment, <br />chemical hazards, radiological hazards, or mechanical irritants encountered in a manner capable of causing <br />injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation, or physical <br />contact. <br />Personal Protective Equipment Training <br />Employees expected to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be trained as follows: <br />• Exposures and how to identify them <br />• Types of PPE to wear as protection from each exposure <br />• When to wear them <br />• How to wear PPE properly <br />• How to care for, clean and properly store PPE. <br />An employer shall verify that each affected employee has received and understood the required training <br />through a written certification that contains all of the following information: <br />The name of each employee trained. <br />• The date of training. <br />• The subject of certification. <br />Personal Protective Equipment Use <br />Head Protection <br />Approved hard hats must be worn if employees could be struck by falling objects, are in danger of striking <br />their heads on fixed objects, or there is a shock hazard from working near exposed electrical conductors. <br />Do not drill holes in the hard hat for ventilation; it destroys the integrity to protect you from blows to the <br />head. <br />Hard hats shall comply with ANSI Z89.1-1986, Class A or B. Class B is required for exposure to high voltage <br />shocks, above 600 volts. <br />Where there is risk of injury from hair entanglements in moving parts of machinery, combustibles, or toxic <br />contaminants, employees shall confine their hair with nets, or other suitable restrictive devices to eliminate <br />the hazard. <br />31 <br />
