COMM Met Ztport: <br /> Parks and Recreation Committee <br /> "e0 tbit Comm0n QCo tiuU of t1jt City of iout1j Veit: <br /> The June 12, 1995 Parks and Recreation Committee was called to order by its <br /> Chairperson, Council Member Sean Coleman at 3:45 P.M. in the Council informal meeting <br /> room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Luecke, Kelly, Puzzello, <br /> Zakrzewski, Coleman, Slavinskas, Washington, Duda, and Ladewski;; Phil St. Claire, <br /> Ron O'Connor, Citizen Member Bill Battest,John Martinez,Larry Magliozzi, Members of <br /> the News Media, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> It was noted that resolution No. 95-39 would be continued to the meeting of June <br /> 26, 1995. <br /> Council Member Coleman at the request of Phil St. Claire then delaied hearing Bill <br /> No.29-95 until Mr.Martinez was in attendance. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 31-95 which would appropriate <br /> $240,000.00 from the Park Maintenance Fund. Mr. Ron O'Connor made the presentation. <br /> He noted that the grant match from the Federal Funds administered by the state of Indiana <br /> is $640,000.00. He noted that the local fund match would be $160,000.00 with design <br /> fees being an additional $ 80,000.00. This appropriation would be used to extend the <br /> Northside Blvd. walkway/bikeway one additional mile. <br /> Mr. Phil St.Claire noted that the one mile extension would be from the boat <br /> launching area at Memorial Park.He noted that it would be ADA accessible and would be <br /> lighted. <br /> Council Member Steve Luecke stated that this is a great project and the he would <br /> hope that the Park Board would also look at first district river banks and access areas <br /> especially along Riverside Drive. Council Member Ann Puzzello spoke in favor of the Bill <br /> and how the river walkway accents the St. Joseph River. Council Member Coleman also <br /> stated that this project is a real asset to the City. <br /> Following further discussion, Council Member Luecke made a motion, seconded <br /> by Council Member Kelly, that Bill No. 31-95 be recommended favorably to council. The <br /> motion passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 29-95 which would appropriate monies to <br /> be used for capitol projects for Potawatomi Zoo. Mr. Martinez made the presentation. He <br /> noted that the specific activities would be used for the construction of a Greenhouse at the <br /> zoo and are funded by the Dorthy Shanafelt Douglas Trust Fund.He reviewed the specific <br /> projects listed in the Bill. <br /> Council Member Kelly recommend that the Council be advised as to who Dorothy <br /> Shanafelt Douglas actually was so that she or her memory could have proper recognition. <br />
