Community and Economic Development Committee <br /> April 11, 1994 <br /> Page 2 <br /> nontraditional entrepreneurs focusing on women and minorities. Following further <br /> discussion, Councilmember Luecke made a motion, seconded by Councilmember <br /> Ladewski, that Bill No. 38-94 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion <br /> passed. A handout from Don Inks dated April 8, 1994 to Council President <br /> Puzzello was also made a part of the record(copy attached). <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 39-94 which would appropriate$99,000.00 <br /> from U.S. Department Housing and Urban Development. Mr. Hunt made the <br /> presentation. He than highlighted the five (5) areas where the monies would be <br /> spent, including appropriations for the Center for Homeless, The St. Joseph <br /> County Aids Task Force, Youth Services Bureau, the YWCA, and Administrative <br /> Costs. <br /> Following further discussion, Councilmember Luecke made a motion, seconded by <br /> Councilmember Ladewski, that Bill No. 39-94 be recommended favorably to <br /> Council. The motion passed. <br /> The Committee than reviewed Bill No. 40-94 which would appropriate <br /> $100,000.00 from Economic Development State Grant Funds. Mr. Hunt noted that <br /> the $100,000.00 would be used for the City's Good Neighbors/Good <br /> Neighborhoods contribution to the Neighborhood Business Development <br /> Corporation revolving loan program. It would be used for loan programs for <br /> commercial strip entrepreneurs. The focus would be in the River Park area. <br /> Following further discussion, Councilmember Slavinskas made a motion, seconded <br /> by Councilmember Ladewski, that Bill No. 40-94 be recommended favorably to <br /> Council. The motion passed. <br /> The Committee than reviewed Bill No.41-94 which would transfer$187.00 within <br /> the Department of Community and Economic Development. Mr. Hunt noted that <br /> that amount of money would be reduced to from Dismis of Michiana and would be <br /> added to the Aids Tasks Force. Following further discussion, Councilmember <br /> Slavinskas made a motion, seconded by Councilmember Luecke, that Bill No. 41- <br /> 94 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. <br /> The Committee than reviewed Resolution No. 94-32 which is a ten (10) year real <br /> property tax abatement request and Resolution No. 94-33 which is a five (5) year <br /> personal property tax abatement request for the property commonly known as 4320 <br /> Ralph Jones Court. Mr. Mike Bitzinger reviewed the Economic Development <br /> Report dated March 28, 1994 (copy attached). <br /> Mr.D. Larry Dunville spoke on behalf of the petitioner. He noted that the company <br /> involved is Dearborne Crane and Engineering Company. They primarily export to <br /> Mexico, Georgia, Tennessee, and California with 85% of their business being in <br /> exporting. They plan to lease with an option to purchase.
