CITY OF SOUTH BEND: COAL LINE TRAIL (PHASE IIB) 11 <br />CLEVELAND ROAD RECONSTRUCTION | ST. JOSEPH COUNTY <br />Client Contact: Sky Medors, PE, CFM, 574.235.9042 | Constructfon Cost: $8.3 million |Team: Susan Al-Abbas, Jessica Clark, Dale Wills, Scott Bockover <br /> <br />Lochmueller performed constructfon inspectfon services for this 4-lane corridor reconstructfon project, from Riverside Drive to SR 933. <br />This project consists of a total reconstructfon of 5,500 feet of roadway, including replacement of the deteriorated concrete pavement <br />and curb, additfon of a multf-use path, pedestrian-actfvated crossing signal, and lightfng. The project also included the rehabilitatfon of <br />Cleveland Road over St. Joseph River (St. Joseph Bridge 212) and safety upgrades to Cleveland Road over Juday Creek (St. Joseph <br />Bridge 007). <br /> <br />ROADWAY ELEMENTS <br />Roadway elements consisted of removing one mile of concrete pavement and <br />replacing it with new storm sewers, subgrade treatment, and QC/QA PCCP <br />pavement. New lightfng, signage, center median wall, curbs, drives, guardrail, and a <br />10-foot-wide multf-use path were also constructed. An added right-turn lane and <br />traffic signal modificatfons were done at the Cleveland Road and SR 933 intersectfon. <br /> <br />BRIDGE ELEMENTS <br />Bridge 212, Cleveland Road over St. Joseph River, is a 4-span, contfnuous steel plate <br />girder. Bridge work consists of: <br />» Removing & replacing the deck, approaches, & mudwalls <br />» Making structural steel repairs & modificatfons <br />» Widening the bridge deck to allow for the additfon of a 10-foot-wide <br />multf-use path <br />» Installing new bridge rails & lightfng <br /> <br />Bridge 007, Cleveland Road over Juday Creek, is a single- span, cast-in-place <br />reinforced concrete box structure. Improvements include: <br />» Performing safety upgrades to address nonstandard sidewalks & railings <br />» Widening the bridge approaches <br />» Replacing the bridge rails <br />» Constructfng a new sidewalk for the 10-foot-wide multfuse path <br /> <br />MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC <br />A four-phase maintenance of traffic operatfon/sequencing included temporary modificatfon of traffic signals at SR 933/Cleveland Road <br />and Riverside Drive/Cleveland Road. <br />EXPERIENCE
