TEAM PROJECT APPROACH RELEVANT EXPERIENCE 8FIRM OVERVIEWCITY OF SOUTH BEND | CE Services for Coal Line Trail Phase IIB (Des # 2200199)
PROJECT UNDERSTANDING & APPROACH
HWC has had the opportunity to inspect numerous projects within
the City of South Bend and throughout INDOT’s La Porte District.
We have performed several different types of projects including a
plethora of LPA trails in northwest Indiana. Our staff is very familiar
with trail construction and is confident this is an area where our
experience and skill set stand out in comparison to our peer firms.
We look forward to using this platform as an opportunity to further
strengthen our relationship within La Porte and make the City of
South Bend one of our repeat clients for many years to come.
We do not take any past opportunities for granted, and we look
forward to once again showcasing our team’s talents to the City of
South Bend on this trail project. HWC will continue to build these
relationships and maintain the level of trust we have earned with
the City through our high level of communication. Whether this is
through regular daily interactions, bi-weekly progress meetings,
or our weekly reports, Scott Carter will ensure that the City is
up-to-date and well informed on project progress, any potential
issues that may arise, as well as construction or value engineering
options throughout construction.
A CONTINUED
RELATIONSHIP
EXPERIENCED
PARTNERSHIP
HWC and McCormick Engineering have a long-standing working relationship which provides a cohesive team and also a varied level of experience to handle any field issues that may
arise. We are a firm believer that this continued partnership carries forward to the benefit of our clients. Our team’s familiarity and experience specifically in the City of South Bend has
also helped to build rapport with local utility companies and the contractors who execute this work. Our proposed inspection team is well versed in path construction and understands the
specific needs of this project. They are prepared and ready to identify and solve issues during construction, but also to review and find any potential issues with the contract documents
and plans. This assures constructibility concerns are addressed throughout the project. The level of attention to detail our team offers enables them to easily and quickly diagnose issues
during each stage of construction to make sure that this project will be built to the expectations of the City and yield lasting, quality results.
40
INSPECTORS
OVER THE PAST SIX YEARS OUR
TRIPLED TO
CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION
TEAM HAS MORE THAN
HWC has made several strategic hires over the last five years to help grow and maintain a diverse and
experienced PE/PS staff. As a result of this strategy, nine of our key Senior Inspector staff have over 25 years
of construction experience. We also have an additional seven staff members that possess 10 or more years of
construction inspection experience. In total, this means over 2/3 of our entire inspection staff has a minimum of
10 years of direct inspection experience.
Our PE/PS core team members are skilled in foreseeing and diagnosing problems before they occur in the field.
By using various techniques learned over the years, our team is confident it can overcome any challenge that
occurs during the course of any construction project. Being able to stay on top of project related issues, such as
subgrade issues, errors/omissions in the contract documents, unforeseen conditions, etc., will help ensure the City
gets a lasting product of which they can be proud. Our history performing work within the La Porte District and
the City of South Bend has proven our ability in this area.
Several different skill sets are required to successfully manage and inspect an INDOT project. Materials need to
be tested and certifications obtained. Weekly erosion control reports, contractor payrolls, and traffic reports need
reviewed for accuracy and compliance. But, ultimately, job success usually comes down to one word: MONEY.
Budget control is imperative to success and INDOT makes it a focal point on their performance scoring. We coach
our teams to constantly check and identify value engineering opportunities in both their inspection and construction
budgets. Specific to projects performed within the La Porte District, our firm has regularly given back money on
inspection budgets and sought ways to save our clients money in timely resolution of field issues and providing
several options to solve constructibility issues. Prompt resolution of problems that arise during construction means
less down time leading to projects being constructed on time and within budget.
DIAGNOSING &
SOLVING PROBLEMS
CONSTRUCTION & INSPECTION
BUDGET EMPHASIS$
THIS CORE TEAM HAS BEEN PART OF NUMEROUS
LARGE PROFILE PROJECTS RANGING IN SIZE UP TO $40 MILLION
