Committee Report HUMAN RESOURCES AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: The April 12, 1993, meeting of the Human Resources and Economic Development Committee was called to order by its' P Y Chairperson, Council Member Roland Kelly, at 3 : 30 p.m. in the Council Informal Meeting Room. Persons in attendance included Council Members: Luecke, Kelly, Puzzello, Slavinskas, Zakrzewski, Coleman, Duda, Ladewski; Ernest Szarwak, Greg Mee, Mike Beitzinger, Tom Hoffman, Don Porter and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. Council Member Kelly noted that the first item on the agenda II; was to review Resolution No. 93-34 which would designate the property at 3300 West Sample Street as an Economic U Revitalization Area for a five (5) year personal property tax abatement. Mr. Beitzinger then reviewed the report from the Department ss ' the of Economic Development dated March 29, 1993 , addressing p 9 request of Emtech Corporation (copy attached) . Mr. Greg Mee, the President of the Corporation, gave a brief presentation highlighting reasons why he believes the Corporation qualifies for the abatement. Following further discussion, Council Member Slavinskas made a motion, seconded by Council Member Duda, that Resolution No. 93-34 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 93-27 which is a request for a ten (10) year real property tax abatement for the property located at the southeast corner of Ireland and Miami Roads. Mr. Mike Bietzinger reviewed the report of the Department of Economic Development dated March 12 , 1993 (copy attached) . Mr. Ernest Szarwak of the Barnes & Thornburg Law Firm noted that Phase One was the exterior work and that Phase Two will include substantial renovation to the interior of the mall including theater renovation. Two hundred thousand square feet of renovation will take place costing 7 . 9 million
