Councilmember Warner supports the program. Vice President Sheila Niezgodski supports the benefit package program and inquires about the timeframe that will produce results (in a year or so). Denise Riedel responds to the timeframe being accurate. Councilmember Rachel Tomas Morgan supports the update of the presentation to the Council. Tomas Morgan inquires about South Bend being a medium sized city and being one of the few that participates in this program. Denise Riedel responds that South Bend is the only city doing this type of program. The board is committed to being open about the lessons learned as well as communication with other cities of the same size that have similar assets and challenges. Council Tomas Morgan supports the efforts of communication in the program. Tomas Morgan inquires about if Commuters Trust have identified with employers of any ongoing obstacles that they have to increase access within their clientele. Denise Riedel responds that when working with a transient population there are cases that residents may change their number. The program offers digital benefits however residents can struggle with technology. However, the program does offer a thirty-one (31) day bus pass that is easier to use along with fully subsidized Uber rides that operate on Sundays. Community partners collaborate with the residents to help sign up for the program as well as providing an SMS system that answers any questions or help the participants in need. Councilmember Karen White mentions the sustainability of the program. Councilmember White inquires while providing transportation, childcare has become an issue as well and asks and if there are conversations with childcare providers. Denise Riedel responds that conversations have existed but were not able to convert those providers into full-time programs; a few have enrolled in the no cost trial. Uber and Lyft have added stops to the ride to work to get children to childcare. President McBride entertains a motion to entertain to resolve to the Committee of the Whole.
